I did not set out to build a philosophy. I set out to understand why I felt exhausted by my own existence.
The question came to me in conversation with my cousin, my father, my uncle — ordinary men in an ordinary room, talking about an ordinary word. I asked my cousin if he would feel uncomfortable telling someone he did not work.
He said no. Then I asked him what he felt when he imagined saying it. And the room went quiet.
That quiet was the beginning of this theory.…
