She had stopped being afraid of them.

Rain tapped softly against the windows. The old clock on the wall had stopped working years ago, but Mara had never replaced it.
It still showed 11:11.
She sat beside the window, holding an old photograph.
It was the same photograph she had seen countless times.
Her mother, Elena.
Gabriel.
And Mara.
Three children standing together beneath the afternoon sun.
Except there was something different now.
For the first time, Mara noticed a fourth shadow behind them.
A little girl.
