You’re registered on Written — congratulations!
Now it’s time to set up your author profile. It’s simple and fast, but if you approach it intentionally, it can become a valuable asset for your personal brand and visibility.
Think of your author profile as a personal landing page. Written profiles index well by search engines, which means that your page can show up when someone is looking for your name, genre, style, and relevant keywords.
Best practices
- Use your full or pen name to make sure people can find you.
- Add your profile picture. A clear photo helps readers connect a real person to the work. It builds trust in the author behind the words, and shows your vibe.
- When writing your bio, think of what best defines you as an author. What is your writing style? What life experience fuels your work? What would you like your readers to say about you and associate you with? What would your ideal reader search on Google? Keep SEO (search engine optimization) in mind.
- Connect your social media accounts. If you’re active on Substack, Instagram or elsewhere, readers would love to check it out. And while you’re at it, don’t forget to add your Written profile to your social media too.
Things to avoid
- Don’t just use half-baked, generic, ChatGPT-written bios. They lack personality and potential readers see through it quickly.
- Don’t skip keywords. It makes you harder to find.
- Don’t use low-quality photos on your profile.
Whether you have your own website or not, your personal page on Written can be a great addition for your online presence — so make it count.
