PAGE 1 — THE HOUSE BY THE SEA
The storm arrived without warning.
For three days, the small coastal town of San Isidro was swallowed by rain. Waves crashed against the cliffs, electricity disappeared, and the roads became rivers of mud.
At the edge of the town stood an enormous ancestral house.
Everyone knew the house.
Nobody entered it.
It had belonged to the Santos family for more than a century.
The locals called it Bahay ng Limot—the House of Forgetting.
Children were warned never to play near it.
Fishermen refused to look toward its windows after sunset.
Old people had a simpler warning:
“Kapag may narinig kang tumatawag sa pangalan mo mula sa loob, huwag kang sasagot.”
If you hear someone calling your name from inside, don't answer.
One night, during the worst storm in decades, a seven-year-old girl named Ana woke up inside the house.
She heard footsteps downstairs.
Then a voice.
“Anak.”
Her father's voice.
Ana opened the bedroom door.
The hallway was completely dark.
“Papa?”
No answer.
She walked downstairs.
Her father was standing near the front door.
Beside him stood a strange little boy.
The boy's clothes were soaking wet.
Water pooled beneath his feet.
Ana stared at him.
“Who is he?”
Her father looked confused.
“Who?”
Ana pointed.
The boy smiled.
Then whispered:
“Don't let them forget me.”
Lightning flashed.
For a fraction of a second, Ana saw dozens of people standing behind the boy.
Men.
Women.
Children.
All staring at her.
Then darkness.
