The Hunger Beneath is a complete supernatural horror story by Dillon Riley, published on Wattpad. It is tagged as paranormal fiction, with supernatural creatures, the occult, and horror, and it runs as a single part.
For years, residents of Blackwood Apartments have been disappearing. At first no one notices. A tenant leaves without saying goodbye. A neighbor stops answering the door. An apartment is suddenly empty, yet everything inside is still exactly where it was. Then Megan Carter starts hearing footsteps outside her door every night at 2:13 a.m.
As the years pass, Megan tries to find out what is happening inside the aging complex. She grows close to Daniel Reyes, a paramedic whose own mother vanished from Blackwood years earlier. Together they uncover secrets buried under the building that go back decades.
Blackwood was not built on ordinary ground. Beneath it lies an abandoned mine, and beneath the mine is something far older — something that has been sleeping deep in the Earth longer than humanity has existed. The shadowy thing haunting the residents is not the monster Megan and Daniel thought it was. It is a servant, a collector feeding souls to something more ancient.
Then the Earth begins to move. Cracks spread through the streets. Blackwood’s foundations collapse. From beneath the building, something enormous crawls out of the dark: a demon the size of a mountain, its body covered in thousands of tiny, unblinking eyes. It is hungry.
Weapons cannot stop it. Cities vanish. Governments fall. The oceans begin to disappear. Year by year the world is consumed until civilization itself is only a memory. Megan and Daniel can only run for so long, because the creature is not merely destroying Earth. It is feeding on it.
The story is a slow-burn supernatural horror about love, survival, and an ancient hunger that was never meant to awaken.
