What about rights? Do I need to sign an exclusive contract to sell my books on the Written app?

What about rights? Do I need to sign an exclusive contract to sell my books on the Written app?

When you publish a book on the Written platform, you remain the sole owner of your work—our publishing system simply records and protects that ownership. Unlike traditional publishing, where contracts can be restrictive and time-limited, Written ensures your rights are permanently and transparently linked to you.

Here’s what that means in practice:

  • You decide when, how, and at what price your book is sold, and whether reselling is allowed.
  • Once your book is registered in our publishing system, no one can alter or claim your rights—it’s cryptographically secured.
  • Smart contracts ensure that every sale (or resale, if enabled) instantly pays you—no delays, no middlemen.
  • You’re free to choose how you monetize your work. We don’t require exclusivity (although it’s highly recommended), and you’re welcome to sell your book on Amazon KDP, your own website, or any other platform.

That said, we do recommend making your Written edition unique—especially for limited editions. Each platform handles publishing rights differently, and some may alter your book’s price, which can create confusion or a sense of unfairness for readers. In some cases, sales on one platform may even cannibalize sales on another.

To avoid that, consider adding an exclusive cover, a special preface, an author’s note, or bonus content when publishing on Written, especially for limited editions. This helps readers see the added value, understand the pricing, and feel more connected to the experience. It’s a win for both you and your audience.

And as always—no matter how you publish—Written guarantees you 90% of revenue from every sale. That’s something no other platform offers.
