In the military, orders are obeyed. But what happens when obeying them becomes the crime?
After decades of service, retired Regimental Corporal Major Jonathan Braddock, WO1, Life Guards, believed the parade square, the discipline and the politics of military life were finally behind him.
Then an old case is reopened.
A former soldier stands accused of actions carried out during an operation years earlier — actions that could destroy reputations, expose senior officers and reopen wounds the Army would rather leave buried.
    The evidence appears straightforward.
    The orders do not.
As Braddock is drawn into the case, he discovers conflicting statements, missing reports and decisions made far above the rank of the man now sitting in the dock.
What begins as a military hearing soon becomes a battle over honour, responsibility and the uncomfortable question every soldier eventually faces:
Where does obedience end and personal responsibility begin?
Inside the courtroom, rank means less than evidence.
Outside it, old loyalties still matter.
Former comrades are forced to choose between protecting the regiment and telling the truth. Senior officers must account for decisions made years before. Careers, medals and reputations are placed under scrutiny as barristers begin pulling apart the official version of events.
And Braddock knows better than most that the Army never truly forgets.
Some witnesses have waited years to speak.
Others would prefer the truth never reached the courtroom.
Because if the accused soldier was only following orders, then somebody else gave them.
And the higher the investigation reaches, the more dangerous the truth becomes.
The Final Court Martial is a British military courtroom drama about loyalty, command, justice and the burden carried by soldiers long after the operation is over.
    The Army demands obedience.
    The court demands the truth.
This time, they may not be the same thing.
