Description
A Christian Response to Qur’an 5:116 and 4:157 – Jesus Christ Is Divine, Was Crucified, and Rose from the Dead examines two of the most significant Qur’anic passages concerning Jesus and asks whether their claims can withstand the scrutiny of history, logic, and theology.
Why does the Qur’an deny the crucifixion of Christ? Did Jesus truly escape death, or does the historical evidence point overwhelmingly to his execution under Pontius Pilate? And does the Qur’anic portrayal of Christians worshipping Jesus and Mary accurately represent the faith proclaimed by the Church from the beginning?
Drawing on the New Testament, early Christian creeds, Roman and Jewish sources, and the testimony of the early Church, this book argues that the crucifixion of Jesus is among the best-attested events of ancient history. It critically evaluates classical Islamic explanations of Surah 4:157 and explores the theological implications of denying the cross. It also examines Surah 5:116 in light of orthodox Christian teaching, showing that Christianity has never regarded Mary as part of the Trinity.
Written with serious Muslim–Christian dialogue in mind, this work avoids caricature and invites readers to weigh the evidence carefully. It challenges the credibility of a revelation that emerged six centuries after Christ while overturning the central message proclaimed by the apostles and affirmed by history.
If Jesus was crucified, then the apostolic witness stands vindicated. If he was not, the Christian faith rests on illusion. This book argues that the evidence leads to one conclusion: Jesus Christ, the Divine Son of God, was crucified, rose from the dead, and remains the Lord of history.
