Beneath the Writhing Sky
A man returns home after recurring dreams, to seek answers about his estranged parents' questionable religious practices. In a small town in Arkansas, he discovers horrors beyond comprehension.
"The sky outside was a mess of black clouds and bleeding
flesh, ripped and splintered with teeth and bone. Lit by some
impossible red light, which seemed to come from everywhere,
and burned my skin with an unpleasant itch where it fell warm
and heavy on my face. I stared as this unfathomable convolution
of gore writhed and twisted above my head, stretching to that
distant horizon beyond the corn-fields and the quarry, seeming
to go on forever. I felt as if a wire had sprouted from my spine,
run through all my tissue, and held me fast to the spot. I could
only move my eyes, frantic and pleading, as the light seared my
face and my retinas. Then a great blue eye sprouted out from
the tissue, and with a constriction of the pupil cast its terrible
gaze over me."
