On the planet Veyra, a world lit by three moons, astronomer Dr. Evelyn Cross discovers an impossible object approaching from deep space. It is not a comet, asteroid, or ship-it is a living dragon of unimaginable size, its black-scaled body larger than continents, its golden eyes bigger than cities, and its wings blotting out the stars. Nothing humanity throws at it-nuclear weapons, fleets, or science-has any effect. After eleven months of dread, the dragon arrives and simply closes its jaws around the entire planet.
Veyra survives the swallowing. Inside the dragon's vast digestive chamber, the world remains largely intact beneath a living, pulsing red sky. Humanity adapts, building farms that draw nutrients from the dragon's body and creating a fragile new civilization they call The Hollow. For decades they endure, raising children who have never seen the original sky.
Then the digestion begins. Corrosive rain falls from the membranes above, slowly dissolving forests, oceans, mountains, and cities. Over generations the planet is consumed from the outside in. The last survivors retreat underground until even their final shelters melt away. Every living thing, every stone, and every memory of Veyra is absorbed into the dragon.
Satisfied, the creature continues through the void.
