When drought bends the old routes and pushes the community toward rocky ground, Xii and Tcebebe become unlikely partners in survival. Their bond grows through labor, not promises; through touch withheld, care refused, and the dangerous relief of being understood by someone who has no right to understand so much.
He has to learn that returning does not mean being trapped.
